About Jim
My wife and I raised our children in the Charlottesville-Albemarle area and have been invested in this community for more than 30 years.
I taught social studies and coached at Albemarle High School from 1990 to 1997 and at Linkhorne Middle School (Lynchburg) from 1987 to 1990. In 1997, I left ACPS and went to work as a sales/customer service rep for Lakeland Tours/WorldStrides, helping teachers with their educational field trips. I have been a financial advisor for the past 21 years, serving families and businesses with insurance, investments, and financial planning. I received my B.A. in history from UVA and my postbaccalaureate teaching certification from JMU.
My wife, Tamsey, is a registered nurse at Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital and we have four adult children; our youngest graduated from Albemarle High School in 2017. My wife and I attended public schools in Virginia and, like many families, chose to live in Albemarle County in part because of the excellent public schools. I believe the families of Albemarle County today and tomorrow deserve the same high quality education for all students regardless of race, background, or socio-economic status. I am running for the Rio district seat on the Board in hopes that we can work together to improve education for all.
“Keeping up his end of the deal” coach Jim Dillenbeck lets the AHS boys cross country team shave his head after they won the western district meet.
